Objectives:
What are the risk factors of COVID-19 or SARS-CoV-2 infection?

Study design:
This review article included 10 studies involving a total of 3,403 hospitalized patients with COVID-19 infection.

No publication bias was found in studies.

Results and conclusions:
The investigators found according to the meta-analysis, the pooled prevalence of hypertension in people infected with SARS-CoV-2 was 16.37% [95% CI = 10.15% to 23.65%, I2 = 86.42%].

The investigators found according to the meta-analysis, the pooled prevalence of cardiovascular disease in people infected with SARS-CoV-2 was 12.11% [95% CI = 4.40% to 22.75%, I2 = 95.89%].
Sensitivity analysis did not show significant changes.

The investigators found according to the meta-analysis, the pooled prevalence of smoking history in people infected with SARS-CoV-2 was 7.63% [95% CI = 3.83% to 12.43%, I2 = 90.19%, p 0.001].

The investigators found according to the meta-analysis, the pooled prevalence of diabetes in people infected with SARS-CoV-2 was 7.87% [95% CI = 6.57% to 9.28%].

The investigators found according to the meta-analysis, the pooled prevalence of chronic kidney disease in people infected with SARS-CoV-2 was 0.83% [95% CI = 0.37% to 1.43%].

The investigators found according to the meta-analysis, the pooled prevalence of malignancy in people infected with SARS-CoV-2 was 0.92% [95% CI = 0.56% to 1.34%].

The investigators found according to the meta-analysis, the pooled prevalence of COPD in people infected with SARS-CoV-2 was 0.95% [95% CI = 0.43% to 1.61%].

The investigators concluded that hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus, smoking, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), malignancy and chronic kidney disease are the most prevalent underlying diseases among hospitalized COVID-19 patients.
