People under 40 years old represent around 6% of severe COVID-19 cases in Europe

Objectives:
Precise international estimates of the age breakdown of COVID-19-related deaths and intensive-care-unit (ICU) admissions are lacking. Therefore, this review article has been conducted.

What is the distribution of COVID-19-related fatalities and intensive-care-unit (ICU) admissions by age groups in Europe?

Study design:
This review article included 13 European countries with a total of 31,864 COVID-19-related deaths (range: 27-14,381 per country).

Serum albumin concentrations are lower in patients with stable COPD

Objectives:
Are serum albumin concentrations lower in patients with stable COPD compared to non-COPD controls?

Study design:
This review article included 26 studies with a total of 2,554 COPD patients (74% males) and 2,055 non-COPD controls (63% males).
Overall, the mean age of participants across all studies was 61.7 years in COPD patients and 64.6 years in controls (patients without COPD).
Almost all (24 out of 26) were prospective cohort studies.

5 most common long-term effects of COVID-19 are fatigue, headache, attention disorder, hair loss and dyspnea

Objectives:
What are the long-term effects of COVID-19 and the prevalence of each symptom, sign or laboratory parameter of patients at a post-COVID-19 stage?

Study design:
This review article included 15 studies.
The prevalence of 55 long-term effects was estimated, 21 meta-analyses were performed, and 47,910 patients were included.
The follow-up time ranged from 15 to 110 days post-viral infection.
The age of the study participants ranged between 17 and 87 years.

55.5% female and 49.6% children are asymptomatic COVID-19 cases

Objectives:
What is the frequency of asymptomatic COVID-19 individuals and estimated occurrence by age group and gender?

Study design:
This review article included 16 studies (cross-sectional and observational cohort studies), comprising 2,788 SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) infected patients.
The studies were published between 1 January and 30 April 2020.
Most studies were from China (n = 11), 2 were from Japan and 3 were from the USA.

Statin use is associated with improved clinical outcomes in patients with COVID-19

Objectives:
Observations studies have shown that prior use of statins is associated with a reduced risk of adverse clinical outcomes in patients with COVID-19. However, the available data are limited, inconsistent and conflicting. Besides, no randomised controlled trial exists in this regard. Therefore, this review article has been conducted.

IL-6 and IL-10 as predictors of disease severity in COVID-19 patients

Objectives:
SARS-CoV-2, an infectious agent behind the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, induces high levels of cytokines such as IL-1, IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-10, TNF-α, IFN-γ etc. in infected individuals that play a role in the underlying patho-physiology. Nonetheless, exact association and contribution of every cytokine towards COVID-19 pathology remains poorly understood. Therefore, this review article has been conducted.
